Mojada | October 3rd - 18th
Luis Alfaro’s Mojada reimagines the Greek tragedy Medea in the streets of modern-day Los Angeles, blending myth with the struggles of immigrant life. At its center is Medea, a seamstress of extraordinary talent who has sacrificed everything to cross the border with her partner Hason, their young son Acan, and her trusted caretaker Tita. While Medea hides away, working tirelessly from her Boyle Heights apartment, Hason eagerly chases the promise of the American Dream, even if it means turning his back on the past. Their fragile new life collides with outsiders: Josefina, the warm and witty neighborhood vendor who offers friendship and guidance, and Armida, Hason’s ambitious boss whose influence threatens the family’s future. As love, loyalty, and ambition pull each character in different directions, Medea faces an unthinkable choice that will echo both the ancient stage and the present day.
Mojada is a powerful story of survival, betrayal, and the cost of assimilation and a call for actors ready to embody passion, humor, heartbreak, and fury.
