3/16/2020: The Selma Arts Center is aware of the recent ordinances put into place by California Governor Gavin Newsom in response to the COVID-19 outbreak. We have begun undertaking precautions to keep the theatre clean and disinfected, and the actors, crew, and staff that work in our spaces healthy and safe. At this time, the Selma Arts Center will remain open. As the situation develops, we will act in accordance with the City of Selma and in the best interest of our community. We expect to know more about the future of our programming in the coming days and will keep our casts, production teams, and patrons informed as we learn more.
As of today, auditions for HAIR will go on as scheduled. Please stay tuned for an update should anything change.
To keep in line with the CDC guidelines and for the health and safety of our guests and staff, we've implemented an audition slot system that helps us control crowds so that there are never more than 10 people in the lobby at a time. Our private auditions are held in an isolated room in which there are never more than 7 people at a time. Both spaces will be cleaned regularly throughout the night.
Those who wish to submit a video audition in lieu of an in-person audition may do so by following the guidelines listed on our website. We ask that you cancel your in-person reservation and let us know should this be the case.
Thank you for your patience and understanding. If you have any questions or would like to know about changing or canceling a reservation, please contact us at 559-891-2238.
- Nicolette C. Andersen, Arts Center Coordinator

Audition Date: Finalist chosen April 10th, Directors interviews April 16th &17th
Note: Deadlines Extended and Audion Dates Moved
The San Joaquin Valley is home to so many talented artists who are constantly yearning to put their work out in the world. Here at the Selma Arts Center we want to give our local playwrights a place to showcase their abilities as storytellers and give artists original work to produce. This summer we invite writers of the community to submit original short plays for an opportunity to be produced and performed in our Selma Originals two-night Showcase. Submissions will be evaluated by our Selma Originals committee and a group of plays will be selected to be performed. Along with playwrights, Selma Originals is looking for Directors, Designers and Actors to bring these pieces of art to life. Reach out to us and share your talents with the valley.
Selma Originals Showcase will be held May 22ndth, 23rd, and 24th 2019, consisting of five or more original plays, 10 to 15 minutes in length. Short Plays & Submission Forms are due March 1st through March 31st. Criteria and contact information listed below. A committee will evaluate each submission and finalists will be chosen by April 1st. Interested Directors must also submit their consideration forms by April 6th. They will then go through a small interview process before selections are made. A playwright has the opportunity to direct their own play but must go through the director interview process.
