Michael Derr

Arts Council Chair

Michael has been involved with the arts for 20 years. During his tenure he has served as Chair, Vice Chair and Member. He was a key part of the development of the new Selma Arts Center as well as the former location. He has assisted in building sets for performances, as well as directing He is also active in the community, serving on the Selma City Council (served as Mayor from 1998-2002), Selma Rotary Club (President 1999), former Treasurer of the Selma Public Education Foundation.

Erik Andersen

Arts Council Vice-Chair

A native to Selma, Erik has been working behind the scenes on local theater productions for almost 10 years. He believes the Arts should be the core of any great community and is driven to help make that a reality. With a professional career is in business management and marketing, he hopes to utilize his years of experience to help drive the arts center and the arts in Selma.

Marla Grey

Arts Council Member

Marla has served as Secretary for the Selma Arts Council .Marla is a native of Selma and is committed to the community and the Selma Arts Center. She and her husband Ken received the Fresno Arts Council's "Horizon Award" in 2013 and were the driving force behind the construction of the new Arts Center.

Juan Luis Guzman

Arts Council Member

Juan Luis Guzmán is a lifelong resident of Selma and has been involved with theatre and community . With multiple acting and directing credits to his name, Juan has served on the Selma Arts Council as a member, chair, and vice-chair. He is committed to bringing diverse productions and events to the Selma Arts Center. Juan is a poet who earned an MFA in Creative Writing from CSU, Fresno and has published and presented his work in various literary journals . He is a professor of English and writing at Fresno City College.

Deanna Moser Driscoll

Arts Council Member

Deanna is the founder of The Dancing School of Selma since 1971. The Dancing School of Selma is now under the direction of her daughter, Beth Zobian, but she continues to teach. Deanna was the co-founder and former co-director of The Fresno Jazz Company and the founder and director of The 2nd Street Dancers. She and her daughter Beth have taken The 2nd Street Dancers on tour to perform in China, Greece, Italy and Mexico.. She holds a B.A. in Psychology from the University of San Francisco. Deanna is active in the local community as a member of the Selma Arts Council, as well as choreographing performances for the Raisin’ Cain Players and other community groups.

Jim Stephenson

Arts Council Member

Jim has been a member of the arts council since the start. Majoring in Fine Arts and Physical education from Fresno State, Jim taught art and coached football for Selma High School for 25 years. He has studied under Darwin Musclemen and won many awards for his art, After teaching, Jim ran a pottery business for 35 years and taught acrylic painting and pottery to the youth of Selma. He is currently teaching art to senior citizen and helps with scenic design for community production.

Louis Franco

Arts Council Secretary

Louis Franco has been a resident of Selma since 1978, and joined the Selma Arts Council in 2013. He supports the Arts, because it offers the community members the opportunity to participate in a diversity of activities. A healthy Arts program enhances the quality of life of the citizens of Selma and its neighbors.

Jeanette Derr

Arts Council Member

Involved in the performing arts as a vocalist since the age of 15 and more recently as a costumer for local theater companies (including area High Schools, Raisin’ Cain Players, Cool Kids Productions, Selma Art Foundation and various video shoots), Jeanette has a love for both the visual and performing arts that has been fed by extensive travel, positive relationships with artists and the desire to always learn more and become better – even at an amateur level.

Anne Peterson

Arts Council Member

Anne received her BSN in Nursing from the University of Kansas. She started acting in High school and college and helped write two plays while at the university. She continued writing skits for various functions at the hospitals and then became one of the original Raisin’ Cain Players. She has been in numerous plays as well as helping behind the scenes. Presently she volunteers at the Selma Arts Center as needed.

Nicolette C. Andersen

Selma Arts Center Coordinator & Junior Company Director

Nicolette earned her B.A. in Theatre with an emphasis in acting, from CSU, Fresno. has worked for the City of Selma Recreation Department as director of the Youth Performing Arts Program for over ten years. As Coordinator of the Selma Arts Center, Nicolette has been very involved in the development of Selma’s performing arts. She has directed and produced many shows for the Cool Kid Players and directed adult community productions such as South Pacific, Mary Poppins, Steel Magnolias and co-directed Into the Woods.

Mike Kirchner

City of Selma Recreation Director and Community Services

Mike has been head of the Selma Recreation and Community Services Department since 1995. He has administrative responsibility for the Recreation, Senior and Cultural Art development for the City. He coordinates, organizes and promotes recreation and senior programming for all existing and new programs and activities.
